2011: The year in Lindsay Lohan

A lot of ink was spilled on Lindsay Lohan in 2011. Here's some of it, and photos, too.

Why are we fascinated with this woman (and by "we" we don't mean us, but people in general)? It's really a kind of reverse fascination. No one seems to be rooting for the poor girl. It's like were watching a train wreck. As John Lennon sang: "A crowd of people stood and stared ..."Superior feeling also plays a role. We all feel superior to Lindsay, don't we? She would seem to have it all, but she's still messing up. Ask Betty White. We'd be able to handle it, to manage better, than she does. For sure.

The media feeds the frenzy. Once she got in its sights, she couldn't escape. If those guys are doing a story on Lindsay, the media says to itself, we better do one too. It's a perfect storm for Lindsay and us. Her tweets make news. Her teeth make news.
